Putting Patients At Ease

Dr. Gomez’ s patients know she values and respects them. With her warm and friendly personality, her gentle voice, and her small hands, Dr. Gomez places her patients at ease. They appreciate the respect she shows in the ways she values her patients’ time, and her careful explanations of procedures to involve them as participants in their own care.

After fourteen years of practicing dentistry in San Francisco’s Public Health Department, Dr. Gomez entered the highly regarded University of the Pacific’s Graduate Orthodontic Program -- one of the leading programs in the country -- and earned a Certificate in Orthodontics and a Masters of Science in Dentistry. Dr. Gomez’ s molecular genetics research in the University’s craniofacial laboratory took her to Guatemala, Peru, and the Philippines to care for cleft lip and palate patients.  She co-authored two papers which both earned the Harry Sicher Research Award, given for clinical research papers of unusual merit related to orthodontics.

Dr. Maybelle Gomez comes from a family of dentists.   As a dentist, she follows in the footsteps of her father, Dr. Francisco Gomez.  She credits her father’s cousin, Dr. Bernardo Gomez, for piquing her interest in orthodontics.  Both of these men had persevered in becoming among the first foreign-trained dentists to gain licensure in California – a challenging feat in the early seventies.  The practices that both men built served the Bay Area for decades.  This website, gomezorthodontics.com, is dedicated in their memory.
